Amid two heartbreaking defeats, Roger Pogoy stays positive

ROGER Pogoy isn't about to sulk down in a corner as TnT Katropa remains winless in the PBA Philippine Cup.

The shooting guard just sees some positives to the team's campaign despite starting the season with two straight losses.

"Kukunin na lang namin yung mga positives doon sa last two games namin kasi kung iniisip mo yun (losses), lalo ka lang mada-down," said Pogoy.

"Tapos move on na kasi mahaba pa naman yung tournament."

It's just too bad the losses had put to naught what had been so far a strong start to the season for Pogoy.

The Cebuano hotshot posted a career-best of 30 points and added 12 rebounds and three steals in the Katropa's 93-84 loss in overtime against Phoenix Fuel Masters last Saturday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.

The career-game came following a 21-point, 16-rebound, two-steal showing he had in the team's opening day loss against Barangay Ginebra, 90-79, at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan.

In all, Pogoy is averaging 25.5 points, 14.0 rebounds, and 2.5 steals.

He credits the new spark in his game to the trust being given him by coach Bong Ravena and consultant Mark Dickel.

"Mas kumpiyansa ako ngayon. Lagi kasi akong sinasabihan (ni coach) na itira ko lang talaga. Basta open ako, itira ko lang," he said.

The Katropa will have a brutal schedule in the coming weeks starting with their Wednesday game against fellow winless NLEX.

Then they faces three-time reigning champion San Miguel Beer on Sunday, followed by Meralco (Jan. 30), and the debuting Magnolia Pambansang Manok on Feb. 3.

Pogoy said the Katropa will just have to be patient as victory will eventually come their way.

"Nag-learn pa kami sa new system ni coach," he said. "Process naman yan, hindi naman panalo agad." (RG)
