Around 100 players strut stuff in PBA 3x3

ASIDE from boosting the country's Olympic hopes, the Philippine Basketball Association provides dream and actual job opportunities to nearly 100 players as they launch PBA 3x3 in the coming 46th season of Asia's first play-for-pay league.

The PBA ball clubs are shelling out an extra amount of money to run a 3x3 team in the inaugural event featuring three conferences each with six legs and a grand finale.

Each team is allowed to tap six players following the FIBA eligibility rules on 3x3.

This means a player with a Philippine passport is automatically eligible, unlike in regular PBA play that requires Bureau of Immigration and Department of Justice documents.

Nearly a hundred players can strut their stuff as the league expects 16 teams to slug it out in PBA 3x3 Season 1.

PBA commissioner Willie Marcial said they're announcing the league makeup in a week or two, pending submission of letters of intent of non-PBA regular teams.

Unable to make the official draft roster for the coming PBA Rookie Draft, Jason Brickman and other Fil-foreign players still working on necessary documents may see action first in the PBA 3x3.

Reports said two teams are bidding for the services of Brickman, a two-time US NCAA assist leader. (SB)
