Barroca achieves another career milestone

MARK Barroca is ageing like fine wine.

On Thursday night, the Magnolia veteran guard was recognized for becoming the newest member of the 2,000 assists club.

Barroca is the 31st player to achieve the feat in the 49-year history of the league and the fifth active among players today.

Two years ago, the native of Zamboanga City also became part of the league's 5,000-point club.

The 38-year-old Barroca was presented with his specially-crafted plaque during halftime of the Magnolia-TNT PBA Governors' Cup game at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

A six-time champion and a two-time Finals MVP, Barroca has played his entire career with the Piurefoods franchise. He was actually picked no. 5 overall pick by Shopinas.com in the 2011 rookie draft, but was trade immediately to his current team.

Too bad, TNT played the spoiler's role as it dealt Magnolia an 88-82 loss, its second in three outings in Group A.

Barroca finished with 12 points and was 2-of-2 from three-point range. He also added three rebounds, two assists, and two steals, but committed four turnovers.(RG)
