Beermen eyeing payback against Eastern

SAN Miguel tries to salvage pride and honor as it crosses path anew with Hong Kong Eastern Wednesday night in the EASL Home and Away Season 2.

The third meeting between the two teams in less than a month is set at the Philsports Arena. Tipoff is at 8 p.m.

The Beermen are already out of the running for a Final Four berth in Group A where they occupied the bottom of the standings with their 0-4 record.

But the reigning PBA Commissioner's Cup champion has an unfinished business with Eastern, which beat the Beermen twice in a row last December.

The Hong Kong-based squad dealt the Beermen a 71-62 beating in their first meeting in the EASL last Dec. 18.

Four days later, Eastern repeated over San Miguel as it won in overtime, 99-91, in the PBA, where the Hong Kong side is competing as guest team.

Other than getting even against their tormentor, the Beermen are also out to spoil Eastern's bid for the remaining Final Four berth in their group.

The team of coach Mensur Bajramovic is still in the running for the remaining semis berth in Group A, where it holds an even 2-2 slate for third place.

In solo second is the Taoyuan Pauian Pilots at 3-1, while at fourth spot is Suwon KT Sonicboom with a 2-3 record.

Reigning B. League champion Hiroshima Dragonflies already claimed the first Final Four ticket in their bracket following their 94-63 blowout of San Miguel last week, coupled by Eastern's 69-61 upset of the Sonicboom.

If ever the Beermen field in import Jabari Narcis in tandem with Torren Jones, it will be the first time the 27-year-old Narcis will be playing in the regional, home-and-away tournament.

The PBA team played with only Jones as import in the loss against the Dragonflies as Narcis was left behind in Manila to rest a hurting back. (RG)
