Beermen starting to feel the pinch of back-to-back defeats

The San Miguel Beermen are beginning to feel the heat two games into the PBA Commissioner's Cup eliminations.

No less than SMB superstar center June Mar Fajardo admitted that there's now a sense of urgency for the Beermen to regain their form following two straight defeats in the mid-season tournament.

The Beermen are obviously nowhere close from the team that won a fifth straight Philippine Cup championship three weeks ago.

In a stunning turnaround, they opened their campaign with a shock 121-88 defeat to NorthPort then fell behind by double digit early against TNT en route to another heartbreaker, 110-97.

Contributing to SMB's struggles is the absence of Terrence Romeo due to an injured Achilles.

"Kailangan makabalik kami sa winning track," Fajardo said after Saturday's game against the KaTropa at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.

It marked the second straight year that San Miguel started the Commissioner's Cup with two straight losses. The Beermen actually went 0-3 that conference but still made it to the finals and settled for a runner-up finish against eventual champion Ginebra.

As things stand now, the Beermen will have to get their acts together before the situation get worse. Their next two games are against league-leader Blackwater on Friday at the Mall of Asia Arena and defending champion Ginebra on June 16 at Smart Araneta Coliseum

"Sana makuha ulit namin yung rhythm namin at mag-bounce back hard," said the reigning five-time Most Valuable Player.

"Sabi nga ni coach madami pa kaming games na lalaruin, di pa naman kami out. Start pa lang ng conference," Fajardo added. (JT)
