Blackwater turns to Jameel McKay to replace Alex Stepheson

Blackwater will be fielding replacement import Jameel McKay when the Elite goes up against the NorthPort Batang Pier on Saturday at the Cuneta Astrodome.

Blackwater team manager Patrick Aquino said McKay is set to arrive on Friday to take the place of Alex Stepheson, who failed to return after seeking medical treatment in United States. He could not make his scheduled Thursday return after being diagnosed with an intestinal bacteria.

It will be the second tour of duty for McKay, who played for the Phoenix Fuel Masters in the same conference two years ago. He averaged 23.8 points, 17.3 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.1 steals and 2.1 blocks during his short stint with Phoenix.

After his stint in the PBA, McKay, 26, took his skills in Japan, Lithuania, Iceland and the Windy City Bulls in the NBA G-League.

The arrival of McKay should be a shot in the arm for the Elite, who played without an import in their last game and were badly beaten the San Miguel Beermen, 127-106.
