Bossing looks forward to a reborn Amer

BLACKWATER expects Baser Amer to play a bigger role as it tries to turn things around for the franchise in the PBA Reinforced Conference.

Coach Ariel Vanguardia already had a talk with the 29-year-old guard, who he said should take an active part if the Bossing are to erase the stigma of the losing campaign they had in the last Philippine Cup.

Amer apparently had a little hard time moving forward following the trade with Blackwater from Meralco, according to Vanguardia.

The Blackwater mentor was gratified Amer being honest to him during his exit interview with the former San Beda stalwart.

"Sabi niya hindi madali yung naging transition niya from Meralco to Blackwater," said Vanguardia in a recent guesting in the Power & Play program of former PBA Commissioner Noli Eala.

It did show in Amer's first season with the Bossing as he hardly had an impact in the just concluded conference in Bacolor, Pampanga, where the franchise unfortunately, ended up winless in 11 games and 19 overall - a new PBA record - dating back from the Clark bubble in 2020.

He likewise sat out Blackwater's last two outings due to a groin injury.

The disappointing showing was in stark contrast in his five-year stay with Meralco where he averaged 10.4 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.9 assists in 196 games.

But after threshing everything out, Vanguardia is confident Amer will be back to his old playing form for the season-ending meet, where the Bossing are going to get help from new acquisitions Javee Casio, Barkley Ebonia, and Rashawn McCarthy.
