Cabagnot turning back the hands of time

EVERGREEN Alex Cabagnot finally made his presence felt for Converge as he played major minutes in the team's dramatic 96-95 comeback win against TNT in the PBA Governors Cup Tuesday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The 41-year-old guard played for 22 minutes and finished with 10 points, including eight in the second half to help the FiberXers complete their rally from 16 points down.

He even scored on a completed three-point play off a foul by fellow veteran Jayson Castro that gave Converge a 92-91 lead in the stretch run.

Cabagnot said he's just trying to repay the trust given him by management after signing him up for a one-year deal from the free agency market.

"Sinusuklian ko lang sila," said the nine-time champion, who also added five rebounds, and two assists and a 4-of-9 shooting from the floor in the team's second win in three outings to tie TNT on top of Group A standings.

"I'm just trying to figure out my role with the team. Not just leadership-wise, but more on how I effected not just the intangibles, but also the tangibles."

Cabagnot said the presence of active consultant Rajko Toroman is also a big help for him to adjust with the team since the two previously worked together when they were still with Petron more than a decade ago.

But with the group stage running only for about a month, Cabagnot said it would be better for him to settle immediately with the role he has to play for the FiberXers.

"Mabilis lang yung conference, so hopefully I can pick it up faster," he added.(RG)
