Calvin Abueva swears game vs. Alaska a good matchup

It will be business as usual for Phoenix's Calvin Abueva when he faces Alaska on Wednesday.

It will be the first encounter between The Beast and his former team since the Aces traded Abueva to Phoenix for Karl Dehesa and its 2019 first round draft pick before the start of the PBA Governors' Cup.

"It's a good matchup. Enjoy to, enjoy to," Abueva said after posting 12 points and six rebounds in Phoenix's 132-91 rout of NorthPort Sunday evening at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Both teams also tote similar 2-0 records after Alaska started the conference with victories over Meralco and TNT KaTropa, which the Aces clobbered 125-96 on Sunday.

Abueva said his focus when they play the Aces is to help his new team finish the month of August unbeaten. No less, no more.

"Focus muna kami na mag-four games kami straight bago mag-end ng month," said Abueva. "Walang pahinga ito. Kailangan i-focus namin to."

So far, the six-year forward has been a breath of fresh air for Phoenix, which beat Columbian Dyip and NorthPort to share the early lead with Alaska.

Abueva averaged 12 points and 9.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists in his first two games with Phoenix.(JT)
