Castro vocal about bid to end Tropang Giga's title drought

ANGELES CITY - Jayson Castro believes TnT Tropang Giga has what it takes to end a long title drought and contend heavily for the PBA Philippine Cup championship.

Solving the team's gaping hole in the middle, while adding new pieces to its roster gave Castro the confidence the Tropang Giga are good enough to have another shot at winning a crown.

While the team's modest goal is to make the semis first, the veteran playmaker was vocal enough to say that he wants no less than another title for the only franchise he played for in his entire PBA career.

"Personally, my goal is to win a championship dahil sobrang tagal na talaga," said Castro during the first media day availability inside the Clark bubble on Sunday.

TnT's last title came during the 2015 Commissioner's Cup.

But the entry of big man Poy Erram, along with a slew of young blood such as the likes of Bobby Ray Parks, rookie Kib Montalbo, and Lervin Flores made the Tropang Giga an even more formidable unit.

It's something that is not lost on Castro.

"Ito na yung time, we have a good team," he said. "Confident ako sa team namin ngayon. But) we'll take it one game at a time. Hindi namin iniisip na championship agad."

Castro's resolve to win was fully displayed right away on opening day as he led the Tropang Giga to a 100-95 win over Alaska.

The Bacolor, Pampanga native finished with 28 points and scored six of the team's final points to seal the victory against the Aces. (RG)
