Chris Tiu on his retirement plans: "I have projects of my own and I have obligations with my family"

After dropping a career-high 30-points on Saturday to power Rain or Shine to a 107-101 victory over NLEX at the end of its elimination round campaign in the PBA Governors' Cup, Chris Tiu strongly hinted that he's considering retirement.

His contract with the Elasto Painters expiring at the end of the season, the 33-year-old told sports scribes at post-game press conference that he wants to focus on his endeavors off the court and spend more time with his family.

"I've had a lot of things to do outside of basketball and there are a lot of new things I want to learn and explore," Tiu said.

While he sounded as if he has already reached a decision, the former Ateneo Blue Eagle said nothing is set in stone until he sits down with Rain or Shine co-owners Raymund Yu and Terry Que.

"I have projects of my own and I have obligations with my family. Lots of things to consider. Let's see," Tiu said.

Certainly, Tiu had the best season of his pro career, averaging 10.7 points, 2.8 rebounds and 4.0 assists in 35 games.

He capped the season by donning the Philippine colors as a member of the national team that took part in the Jakarta Asian Games.

"I'm happy with my performance. I think given all my other commitments, I did what I could to help my team to be in the best physical shape and to lead the team to victory as much as we can," Tiu said. (JT)
