Danny I makes PBA comeback with Converge

EIGHT years after, PBA great Danny Ildefonso is unretiring and will join Converge as part of its roster in the Governors' Cup.

On Thursday, the FiberXers made a surprising move by activating the two-time MVP and current assistant coach in time for their game against Meralco on Friday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The 46-year-old big man retired in 2015 after ironically, playing for the Bolts in his last season in the league.

Upon retirement, he served as deputy coach with the Alaska franchise, and later on with Converge.

By activating Ildefonso, Converge will have a complete 15-man roster for the season-ending meet.

The FiberXers currently share fourth to fifth spots with NLEX with similar 6-3 record, but are coming off a 106-103 loss to the Phoenix Fuel Masters.

Ildefonso carved out a legendary career in the league since being selected as the no. 1 overall pick in the 1998 draft.

After being acquired by San Miguel in a trade with Formula Shell, Ildefonso became the cornerstone of the Beermen as he guided the franchise to a total of eight championships from 1999 to 2011.

He was a former Rookie of the Year, one of the few two-time MVP winners, a three-time Finals MVP, five-time Best Player of the Conference, a two-time Mythical First Team, three-time Mythical Second Team, and an eight-time All-Star.

Ildefonso was likewise named among the 40 Greatest PBA Players of all time. (RG)
