FiberXers seek to extend Cinderalla run vs E-Painters

IN a Cinderalla run in their first tourney with coach Aldin Ayo, the Converge FiberXers want no turning back, looking to extend what's already the hottest streak by any team in the conference as they tangle with the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

A win away from a guaranteed playoff entry, Converge goes for the clincher while also aiming to stay in hot chase of a twice-to-beat bonus in the PBA Commissioner's Cup quarterfinals as it tackles Rain or Shine in their 6:45 p.m. tiff.

Quincy Miller and his teammates have won six games in a row as they have emerged as a threat to anybody, one conference removed from a mere seventh-place finish in the franchise's PBA debut.

They're very much on track for a Top Two finish and its coveted quarters incentive, and they will close in on that target if they can make it seven in a row and jack up their record to 8-2.

Rain or Shine will surely be a tough assignment, though, with its own need to push its drive.

Bamboozled by the Bay Area Dragons, 120-87, on Friday, coach Yeng Guiao and his troops dropped to joint seventh place with the NorthPort Batang Pier at 4-5.

And a giant of a team in San Miguel Beer (3-4) plus regular contenders Meralco (3-5) and NLEX (3-5) are right behind them.

Things would become a lot more difficult for the E-Painters if they can't stop the FiberXers.

Redemption is the order of the day for Ryan Pearson after a lackadaisical nine-point PBA debut, making the E-Painters an easy prey for the Dragons.

The ROS substitute import to Steve Taylor Jr. certainly has to raise the level of his game notches higher if ROS is to catch the bus to the post-elims play. (SB)
