Fit-again Abueva still on restricted minutes with Magnolia

DESPITE being back in harness, Magnolia is still limiting the playing minutes of Calvin Abueva in the PBA On Tour.

Coach Chito Victolero bared the team's plan of slowly breaking in Abueva back after playing in the preseason for the first time last Sunday coming off a knee injury.

Abueva has yet to fully regain his timing and rhythm, according to Victolero, even though he had a game-high 16 rebounds in the Hotshots' 94-65 rout of the San Miguel Beermen to remain undefeated at 8-0.

"He's on limited minutes. Every four-five minutes kailangan namin siyang ilabas, no matter kung maganda or pangit yung laro niya. We're just trying to break-in yung laro ni Calvin," said Victolero.

But for someone who was out of action for more than a month and missed the team's first six games, Abueva got a passing grade from his coach.

"He did well. May konting gigil lang, pero yun naman siya (Abueva)," Victolero added.

The champion coach said Abueva playing in the Hotshots' remaining three games On Tour would help him further regain his playing form.

"Kailangan niya pa ng more games para makuha yung timing niya," Victolero said.

Abueva and the rest of the Hotshots will travel to Dumaguete City over the weekend to face second-running Rain or Shine in a marquee matchup on the road. (RG)
