French basketball team coming over for exhibition games vs PBA teams

A select French basketball team is coming over in September to play exhibition games against PBA ballclubs.

PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial revealed the upcoming activity after meeting with French Ambassador to the Philippines Miche'le Boccoz and French Embassy Counselor for Cooperation and Cultural Affairs, Marc Piton recently.

Apparently, the idea was hatched by the French Ambassador, who watched Game 3 of the PBA Governors' Cup Finals between Meralco and eventual champion Ginebra and was blown away by the energy and excitement of the boisterous capacity crowd that showed up at the Araneta Coliseum.

"Definitely, maganda ito para sa PBA and magandang experience din para sa teams," said Marcial, who also offered a tune-up game between the French team and Gilas.

The league commissioner said he proposed to Boccoz that the tune-up games with Gilas take place in the first week of September prior to the Nationals' departure for China to compete in the Asian Games.

Marcial, however, said he will still talk with Gilas coach Chot Reyes if he approves to play against the visiting French team.

The Asian Games is set from September 10- 25 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China.

The exhibition games is also part of the highlights of the 75th year celebration of the Philippines-France friendship on June 26.
