GDL , Wong lead Team Greats past Team Stalwarts

PASSI CITY - Team Greats gunned down Team Stalwarts in a shootout, 158-138, to top the Rookies, Sophomores, Juniors game of the PBA All-Star weekend Friday.

Adrian Wong of Magnolia anchored the Team Greats' assault with 29 points including back-to-back shots from four-point in the final quarter that held back a spirited rally by Team Stalwarts.

Wong buried the game's first four-point basket to give his team a 22-17 lead in the first quarter that set the tone for high-scoring match.

He later capped the show with a three-point dunk in the game's final minutes in which he bounced the ball off the floor before completing a two-handed slam that drew cheers from the capacity crowd at the City of Passi Arena

He finished with 29 points including 18 in the final quarter to emerge MVP and awarded his own trophy plus P30k prize purse.

"I'm just happy everyone came out and competed," said the Magnolia player.

"I was just feeling it so I kept on rolling and see what happens afterwards," he said about the game's first four-point shot.

Javi Gomez De Liano led Team Greats with 30 points, 18 of them coming in the first half as he connived with Wong to give their side a slim 65-63 lead at the break.

Rookies Justin Arana and Ato Ular each had 23 points for the winning team coached by Richard Del Rosario.

Team Greats outscored Team Stalwarts, 54-41, in the fourth quarter as they survived the 33-point second half explosion of Encho Serrano.

Serrano finished with 40 points for Team Stalwarts, which also got 32 points from Joshua Munzon and 21 from Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser.
