Guiao bats for PBA to push forward

BULLISH in coaching and bullish in his desire to see PBA return to play is NLEX coach Yeng Guiao.

He is expected to share ideas and suggestions that could help the pro league gradually get back in motion as PBA commissioner Willie Marcial convenes coaches and team managers Friday in a meeting ahead of their targeted non-scrimmage training later this month.

Even with the continuing surge of COVID-19 cases in the country, Guiao is steadfast in his belief that the PBA can get back into the grind and move forward.

"It's feasible when we make it feasible," said Guiao, believing it's on the PBA to make things happen.

"Dalawa lang ang choice natin, maghintay tayo ng vaccine na di natin alam kung kailan dadating o gumawa tayo ng paraan," he pointed out.

Marcial and the PBA board of governors have made an effort and, with the endorsement of the Games and Amusements Board, have got the government's nod on PBA's training restart even under General Community Quarantine.

The league firms up guidelines and protocols in Friday's confab at 2 p.m. followed by the PBA board meeting to be presided by chairman Ricky Vargas Saturday.

Guiao is for the league to push forward especially now that they're allowed by the government to be back in the gym.

"While there's still no vaccine, let's try something," he said.

A former vice governor and congressman, Guiao said it's for the league to find solution to its problem as the government has many concerns, with sports likely to be the least.

"We have to look for own solution and be proactive. We're the least of problems by government. Ang dami nilang problema kung sila ang iintayin natin. We have to start pushing for our own resumption," said Guiao.

"The government will always be conservative. They don't want to be blamed. So if nobody moves, walang mangyayari," he added.

"At the same time, gusto rin nila yan (PBA return) because it's going to be towards the direction of normalcy. So we have to present something to the government; hindi ang government and magiisip sa atin." (SB)
