Helterbrand: We play better when we have our backs against the wall

Barangay Ginebra's never-say-die spirit is alive and it has carried on through generations.

Once again, the Star Hotshots has placed the Kings in familiar territory in what seems to be a situation where they thrive most -- according to Jayjay Helterbrand.

"All year, we all like it like this. I just don’t know why. It is just the way na… yung team namin, yun gusto mangyari. Ganun ang gusto namin," said Helterbrand.

"We are like, we play better when we have our backs against the wall. It seems that we don’t like it if we have a comfortable lead. I don’t know why, parang gusto namin nahihirapan kami. I think we play better that way. I honestly think we do."

But the former PBA MVP hopes that they try to take an easier route next time, learn from their mistakes and avoid tough do-or-die games.

"Honestly, it seems we have more success that way. Last conference, when we won a champhionship… ganoon din, eh. Sana matuto kami na to do it the easy way sometimes. These are the cards we dealt and we will play the best way we can."

Helterbrand prays that his team wakes up in time and take Game 6.

"If we are not awake by now, we are in trouble. I mean, important win for us next game or it’s Boracay time. So, we got to get this win."

The Star Hotshots will have a chance to close out Barangay Ginebra on Sunday, February 19 at Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
