Inaugural PBA 3x3 on hold

THE supposed launch of PBA 3x3 won't happen soon even if PBA Season 45 gets to re-take off late in the year.

With limited movement under the present situation, the PBA Commissioner's Office is focused on trying to get the 12 ball clubs to calibrated return to training and hopefully return to play by October.

Everything else has been shelved, including the supposed inaugural 3x3 tourney.

"It's on hold," said PBA deputy commissioner Eric Castro of the event they're to launch to help the national cage federation boost this hoop discipline which is to make its debut in the Tokyo Olympics as a regular sports event.

The PBA has had its earlier contribution in putting up the quartet of Moala Tautua, CJ Perez, Jason Perkins and Chris Newsome who ruled the inaugural 3x3 event in the SEA Games in Manila last year.

Tautuaa and Perez were later named to the Gilas 3x3 team that will vie in the Olympic Qualifying Tourney.

"We're supposed to start the 3x3 this Philippine Cup. Pero probably next year na. We'll see kung kailan natin ma-i-start," said Castro.

The PBA 3x3 idea came up in the last PBA annual planning session as recommended by PBA vice chair Bobby Rosales.

It will be a stand-alone event run by an executive director under the supervision of the PBA commissioner.

Rosales said their 3x3 program would underscore PBA being inclusive.(SB)
