Japeth shifts focus to culinary during long PBA break

IMAGINE a chef who stands at 6-foot-9.

If Japeth Aguilar will try to excel at culinary as what he's been preoccupied during this quarantine period, he could yet qualify as one of the world's tallest cook.

Instead of the basketball court, the kitchen has been Aguilar's comfort zone these days with the country and the entire world still reeling from the effects of the coronavirus outbreak.

His first foray at cooking, the Barangay Ginebra slotman disclosed trying his hand at preparing kaldereta (beef stew).

"(May) recipe na yun ng tatay ko," said the native of Sasmuan, Pampanga and son of former PBA player Peter Aguilar.

"Isang beses pa lang naman yun kasi yung wife ko talaga ang nagluluto ng food namin," Aguilar added.

He got a passing grade from wife Cassy Naidas-Aguilar.

"Pasado, pasado daw," said a smiling Aguilar.

There's no doubt though, basketball remains the haven for the 33-year-old finals MVP of the last Governors Cup.

Almost three months into the quarantine period, Aguilar said he's badly missing being on the court again especially with Barangay Ginebra having not played yet in the season-opening Philippine Cup.

The Gilas Pilipinas regular said he misses just about everything in the game.

"Nami-miss ko yung mga teammates ko, sila coach Tim (Cone). Basta yung mga daily routine, yung gigising ka sa umaga, magpa-practice, and after practice, mag-workout," said Aguilar.

"Si coach Tim nami-miss ko yung paano siya magturo sa practice, tapos minsan nagagalit siya sa amin, kung paano siya magalit sa amin," he added.

Aguilar admitted the pandemic taught everybody to appreciate even more the things that we usually do on a regular basis.

"Yung normal na routine na usually hindi natin pinapasnin, pero ngayong Community Quarantine yun ang mga nami-miss natin," he said. (RG)
