Jarin says McKinnis needs to exert more effort

PHOENIX Fuel lost its first two games in the PBA Governors' Cup, including a tough 95-100 heartbreaker against NLEX where the Fuel Masters fell short of completing their comeback from a 23-point deficit last Sunday night.

Despite the twin defeats, head coach Jamike Jarin was pleased with the effort, most especially the local players, as they put together solid games.

As it is, Jarin awaits his import, Jayveous McKinnis' breakout performance, to complement the effort of the locals who had been playing splendid basketball.

"We just want a little bit more from our import. As a team, we were playing better, especially the locals, but we need Jayveous to exert more effort and complement the locals," Jarin said.

McKinnis was good for only 15 points and 14 rebounds in the team's last outing against the Road Warriors where he was completely dominated by his counterpart, Mycheal Gerome Henry,l who pumped in 37 markers.

Now the Fuel Masters will have to play with a lot more sense of urgency in their next game when they take on the streaking Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, who share the lead with the San Miguel Beermen in the standings of Group B with identical 2-0 slates, on Friday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

"Normally, we take the staircase to be able to succeed, but since we are 0-2 right now, it means we need to take the elevator for us to be able to get up faster," added Jarin.(RJ)
