Kevin Alas warms up early to lead NLEX past Alaska

NLEX'S sizzling start paved way for an easy, 104-89, victory over Alaska in the Phoenix Super Basketball Tournament Wednesday at Upper Deck Gym in Pasig.

Kevin Alas lit up for the Road Warriors early, scoring nine of his 18 points in the opening frame as NLEX opened a 22-9 lead.

That lead grew to as much as 19, 43-24, midway in the second frame as NLEX took Alaska to a shooting clinic en route to its second straight victory in the tune-up series.

Vic Manuel helped the Aces get to within five, 56-51, with 6:41 left in the third frame, but Raul Soyud and Alas conspired in a 15-2 charge that restored order and made it a 71-53 lead for NLEX with less than four minutes remaining in the quarter.

Soyud topscored for NLEX with 22 points and eight rebounds off the bench, making the most of his 22 minutes on the floor.
