Laput proving to be a big revelation for Terrafirma

TOP rookie Joshua Munzon is poised to become the new face of Terrafirma.

Yet, another newbie in big man James Laput is proving to be a revelation for the Dyip in their daily grind heading to the new PBA season.

The 6-foot-10 former La Salle center has been impressing in team practices that management is convinced he'll be an asset for the Dyip in their campaign for the coming Philippine Cup.

"Magugulat sila sa improvement niya," said assistant team manager Ireneo Iby Bautista of Laput.

"Sabi nga nila ang skills nade-develop pero ang height mahirap hanapin."
Coach Johnedel Cardel agreed with management's observation.

"Every practice namin, he's really doing a great job," said the Terrafirma mentor. "He's very eager to win and excited palagi sa ensayo namin."

The Dyip had to give up something big in order to acquire the rights on the Fil-foreign center.

Laput was part of the trade package Terrafirma got in letting go of star player and two-time scoring champion CJ Perez to San Miguel.

The Dyip acquired Russel Escoto, Matt Ganuelas Rosser, Gelo Alolino, and San Miguel's first round pick at no. 8 in the last draft in dealing off the 27-year-old Perez.

They didn't lose time using the pick in selecting Laput.

And based on what the Dyip have been seeing so far, it appears gambling on the big man is starting to pay off.

Hopefully, everything translates come game time. (RG)
