Lassiter, Beermen make history in night of torrid shooting

THE San Miguel Beermen themselves made history as Marcio Lassiter pulled a great feat of rising to No. 1 in the all-time three-points ladder.

June Mar Fajardo and the rest of the Beermen followed what Lassiter started in the first quarter as San Miguel decimated Barangay Ginebra, 131-82, for an automatic playoffs spot in the PBA Governors' Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum Sunday.

Lassiter dislodged Jimmy Alapag at No. 1 in the league's all-time three-points list with a torrid start marked by four booming treys just in the first quarter to bring his tally up to 1,252 ahead of Alapag's old standard of 1,250.

The Fil-Am hotshot drilled in six triples in all and was one of six Beermen scoring in double figures in a torrid shooting that rewarded San Miguel its most lopsided win for the franchise.

Coach Tim Cone and Ginebra, meanwhile, suffered their worst loss ever.

June Mar Fajardo delivered a huge double-double with 24 points and 17 rebounds, CJ Perez sizzled with 22 markers plus six assists and two rebounds while Jordan Adams had a mini double-double with 12 markers and 11 boards.

Terrence Romeo (14 points) and Don Trollano (11) had their own double-digit efforts as the Beermen avenged their loss to the Kings in their previous tiff and in the process gained solo lead in Group B with a 6-2 card.

The Kings dropped to third spot at 5-3, with idle Rain or Shine left alone at second at 5-2.

Though assured of a spot in the post-elims play, the Beermen are expected to get going in chase of top seeding in the quarterfinals.

So mean were the Beermen in their grudge match with the Kings that they opened a 24-point bulge, 37-13, right in the opening quarter.
