Lassiter moves closer to history

THE chase to become the PBA's all-time holder for the most three-point shots made continues for Marcio Lassiter.

The San Miguel gunner climbed the ladder anew after surpassing Barangay Ginebra's LA Tenorio and sit at no. 3 in the current list on Sunday night.

Lassiter shot 3-of-6 from beyond the arc to finish with 13 points in the Beermen's 106-89 win over the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters for a 2-0 lead in their best-of-seven semis series.

The numbers gave the 37-year-old wingman a 1,219 total and relegate Tenorio at no. 4 with 1,218.

Tenorio is the third man Lassiter surpassed in the all-time list this conference alone after Ronnie Magsanoc and two-time MVP James Yap.

Lassiter though, has nothing but great respect for the Barangay Ginebra team captain.

"Just to be in the same breath as LA, one of the true legends and greatest point guards in the PBA, when I came to the league, I looked up to him, so it's great to just be in the same sentence with him," he said.

"I'm truly honored and hopefully, I could just keep going. I don't know how long it would go on, but we'll see."

He actually needs just 23 made shots to tie the legendary Allan Caidic at no. 2 (1,242) and 31 away from no. 1 Jimmy Alapag (1,250).

Lassiter considered the two gunners as legends.

"The next two are great legends, obviously, two GOATs. One has the record, and the second, I feel like arguably the GOAT of shooting," he said of Caidic and Alapag.

And moving past the two would definitely a great personal milestone for Lassiter.
"When that time comes, it will be a very special one for me," he said. (RG)
