Matthew Wright proud of Phoenix's early success

Matthew Wright feels proud to see Phoenix atop the standings and looking every inch a contender in the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup.

The Fuel Masters notched their fourth consecutive win with a masterful 114-95 rout of the struggling Blackwater Elite on Friday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.

"Honestly it's a great feeling. It's one thing getting drafted by a great team and then just being a part of history," said Wright, who had 19 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists in the win.

"It's another thing to start from the bottom and see it develop and start something brand new. I take a lot of pride in that, I'm very happy on how we've been playing," he added.

Wright though warned his teammates from being complacent.

He rued the way they played in the fourth quarter, that saw the Elite pull within 17 points after trailing by as many as 37 with under five minutes left in the third.

"We're still far from where we need to be. We played well in the first three quarters but turned sloppy in the fourth quarter. We didn't execute well, we didn't put them away the way we wanted to," he said

"Luckily we had a good start. But we gotta have that killer instinct." (JB)
