Murell rules slam dunk contest

CITY OF PASSI - Converge's David Murrell overcame the 50-point dunk of rival Tyrus Hill of Blackwater to win the PBA All Stars Slam Dunk Contest Friday at the City of Passi Arena.

With mounting pressure after Hill got a perfect score for cleanly jumping over Jamie Malonzo and throwing down a one-hander in the second round, Murrell executed a 360-degree windmill as his final dunk.

That earned 46 points from the five judges composed of legends Allan Caidic and Noli Locsin, Mayor Stephen Palmares, PBA Press Corps president Gerry Ramos and veteran sportscaster Andy Jao.

That was enough to get Murrell ahead of Hill in the final tally, 92-91.

Murrell benefited from his 46 markers on his 360-degree two-hander earlier in the first round, where Hill had a low 41 on his attempt at a Vince Carter elbow dunk.
