NLEX-NorthPort: One side is to check its slide

NLEX and NorthPort, two teams on a slide and now facing the reality of an uphill climb to make the playoffs, clash in a crucial tiff in the PBA Commissioner's Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum Wednesday.

The Road Warriors and the Batang Pier duke it out at 5:45 p.m. eyeing some reprieve from their growing woes.

Back-to-back losses sent the Road Warriors to joint eighth place with the San Miguel Beermen at 3-4. And the Batang Pier are in tighter spot at 3-5 following three straight defeats.

Definitely, both teams need to get into better groove and start winning if they're to contend for a spot in the post-elims play.

And it means they're facing each other in a virtual knockout tiff.

The Road Warriors ran into the sizzling Converge FiberXers the last time out and went down to a 108-84 blowout. A game earlier, they yielded to the Beermen, 124-116.

Coach Frankie Lim and his troops last tasted a win at the expense of the TNT Tropang Giga, 110-101.

Meanwhile, coach Pido Jarencio and his NorthPort team just lacked the winning punch in the thriller of a finish of their match versus the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters the last time and suffered a 76-75 heartbreaker.

But they earlier went down to ghastly routs against Magnolia, 109-91, and San Miguel, 104-86.

The question is which team has done its assignment to check its slump in this vital NLEX-NorthPort setto. (SB)
