PBA 3X3: Vosotros strikes when it mattered most as TNT frustrates Meralco

FOR the sixth straight time, it's TNT.

Almond Vosotros, who else, knocked down the marginal two-pointer as top-seeded TNT nipped tough No. 2 Meralco in overtime, 21-20, to win the PBA 3x3 Season 3 Second Conference crown and seal a six-peat Tuesday night at the Ayala Malls Glorietta.

Hero of many Triple Giga triumphs, Vosotros stepped up to the plate when the Bolts were threatening to end the dynasty they started back in the Third Conference of Season 1.

Reymar Caduyac put second seed Meralco on the hill at the start of OT with his layup. But given a lifeline when Jeff Manday missed the potential clincher twice, Vosotros went to work from deep to complete the steal and the P750,000 champions purse.

Vosotros finished with nine points with five rebounds, four assists and two steals in leading the multi-titled franchise past Meralco, which suffered the same fate as TNT's previous challengers Purefoods, Platinum, San Miguel Beer and Cavitex (twice) and settled for bridesmaid honors.

The troops of Mau Belen survived one of the most difficult challenges in their long-running reign, having to fight back from Meralco's 11-7 and 19-18 leads.

"Sobrang happy and blessed. Yung mga teammates ko hindi nag-give up throughout 10 minutes," said Vosotros, who was backed up by Gryann Mendoza's six, Chester Saldua's four and Ping Exciminiano's two markers.

"Ito yung way namin para masuklian yung ginagawang tulong sa amin ng management at coaching staff," he added.

Meralco's Manday (seven points), Caduyac (six), Joseph Sedurifa (five) and Alfred Batino (four) went home with P250,000 after their first finals appearance.

Pioneer Elastoseal, the last team to win a conference title before TNT went on a tear, took third place honors worth P100,000 after beating Cavitex, 16-15. (OL)
