PBA chief grateful for players' charity works

PBA commissioner Willie Marcial lauded the fundraising drives and other good deeds players of different ballclubs have been spearheading on their own to help their fellow Filipinos in this time of the coronavirus pandemic.

Marcial said the league definitely appreciated the efforts being extended by several players for the frontliners and the needy especially with the PBA season currently on a break following the imposition of the entire Luzon under the Enhanced Community Quarantine.

"Tuwang-tuwa po tayo at nagpapasalamat talaga kami sa mga players, coaches, team owners, pati sa mga governors na tumulong," said Marcial when interviewed on radio Saturday.

He noted the works done so far by the likes of coach Jeff Cariaso, Vic Manuel, Ryan Arana, Jio Jalalon, Abu Tratter, Paul Desiderio, and even Calvin Abueva.

But there are also those who are quietly helping on their own.

"Si June Mar hindi lang sinasabi sa inyo pero namimigay din yan (ng tulong). si LA (Tenorio) si Beau (Belga). Hindi lang nakikita na nagbibigay sila, basta makatulong lang kami yun ang mahalahaga ang sinasabi nila," he said.

Marcial also didn't forget to thank the 12 team owners as well as the governors, who did their share in giving out financial assistance extended to game-day PBA staffers.

The commissioner is likewise grateful for Cariaso and the other players and personnel who handed out cash assistance also meant for non-regular league employees which amounted to more than P800K.

Marcial encouraged the players to continue doing the charitable act especially with the uncertainty of the current health crisis.

"Ligaw pa rin kami kaya hindi namin makita kung kung paano (kikilos). Hinihintay lang naming kung ano ang mangyayari ditto bago kami mag-desisyon," he said.(RG)
