PBA legend Jimmy Alapag makes G League coaching

JIMMY Alapag has officially made it to the coaching staff of the Sacramento Kings' affiliate in the G League, earning recognition for himself, the PBA and the Filipino nation as a whole.

Alapag was hired as an assistant coach to the Stockton Kings, one big step towards his dream of making it to the NBA.

And the PBA legend and longtime Gilas Pilipinas skipper drew praises from friends, pals and former colleagues in the PBA.

"Here we go, @JAlapag3!!! Step by step. So happy for you. Congrats!!!" said TNT coach Chot Reyes, who had guided Alapag for years in the PBA and with the national team.

"Gratz n Good luck.... Another Filipino pride," said former PBA coach Louie Alas on Facebook.

Alapag, a former head coach of the San Miguel Alab team in the ABL before joining the San Miguel Beer coaching staff in the PBA, made it to the Stockton Kings team in the G League as an assistant to coach Bobby Jackson.

The one-time PBA MVP awardee gained this breakthrough after an exhilarating ride in the Sacramento Kings' championship run in the recent NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.

The Cal State-San Bernardino alum played 14 seasons in the PBA, earning six championships, two PBA Finals MVP awards and 11 stints in the All-Star Game. (SB)
