PBA officials excited to bring back fans in playing venue

IF all imports are able to come in time, the PBA Season 46 Governors' Cup fires off Nov. 28 - a conference targeted by league officials to be a tournament-long celebration with the fans.

PBA officials look forward to bringing the crowd back in the games, hopeful they would get the approval of the Inter-Agency Task Force amidst the improving data concerning COVID-19.

"We're back and we hope to come back stronger in the second conference. We started from zero, then we're able to hold one conference, and we're looking at a second conference this season hopefully with the fans inside the playing venue," said PBA board chairman Ricky Vargas.

PBA commissioner Willie Marcial promised to make the fans happy and hinted at a Christmas Day bill with great treats to the league diehards.

"Pasasayahin natin ang crowd, ang PBA fans. Meron na tayong pinagiisipang mga promos, including libreng tickets sa venue," said Marcial.

PBA officials are hopeful they would get the IATF approval, given the fact that the government has approved the reopening of cinemas.

"Idudulog natin lahat sa IATF. We'll coordinate with them everything. Malamang nyan kung ano ang pinayagan nila sa movie houses, yun din ang ibibigay sa atin. And we're ready to follow," said Marcial.

Vargas brims with excitement to have the fans back.

"We're excited about the second conference. It's going to be a conference with imports, and we're looking forward to having our fans back. Yan ang pangarap namin. It's been two years. We're looking forward to having them again as part of our tournament," said Vargas.

But even minus the crowd in the Clark bubble and in the Bacolor semi-bubble, Vargas said they're so grateful to everyone with a hand in the return of the PBA.

"The success of our hosting games is based on cooperation with the government. The Department of Health, the national government and the local government allowed us to do it. Napaka-important ng cooperation," said Vargas.

And the league officials are determined to move forward, with great hopes of returning to normal sooner than later.

"Gusto ko sana sa opening, pwede na ang fans, at pupunuin ko yan. It's a joyous occasion for us to get the fans watch the PBA games again," Vargas said. (SB)
