PBA welcomes new team Converge with symbolic basketball

CONVERGE ICT Solutions was officially welcomed to the PBA family after being presented with a symbolic ball by no less than commissioner Willie Marcial.

Team owner Dennis Anthony Uy received the ball from Marcial during the formal launching of the new franchise on Tuesday at the EDSA Shangrila Hotel.

Uy was accompanied by wife Grace when presented with the basketball which they signed along with the commissioner, signifying the official entry of Converge FiberXers to Asia's first ever play-for-pay league.

Marcial formally opened the door to welcome firm to the 46-year-old league.

"Ngayong 47th season ng PBA, malaking bagay ang pagpasok ng Converge at talagang makakatulong para sa ikagaganda ng liga," said the PBA chief.

Uy vowed to form a competitive team at Converge, which acquired the Alaska franchise recently.

"We want to give top-notch basketball entertainment by having the best franchise in the PBA today," said the billionaire from Angeles, Pampanga.

Team governor Chito Salud echoed the sentiment of the FiberXers' goal as it forays into their first season in the league.

"To help Converge begin a winning tradition that will allow Converge to belong to the Philippine basketball annals of teams with a rich history of championship and championship pedigree," added the former commissioner.(RG)
