Perez braces for challenges ahead of unbeaten SMB

AS the wins continue to pile up for San Miguel, CJ Perez knows all eyes will be on the Beermen for the rest of the PBA Philippine Cup.

Hiking their record to a league-best 8-0, the Beermen are bracing for an all-out assault against them as they play their final three outings this week before heading to the playoffs.

Perez expects a rough sailing as San Miguel plays NLEX, Blackwater, and Meralco in the next seven days.

"For sure yung target nasa amin yan," admitted the Best Player of the Conference of the last Commissioner's Cup.

"Yung 8-0 is nothing. Kailangan naming i-sustain and maging consistent sa ginagawa namin sa practice at sa mga games."

Perez is the epitome of consistency for the Beermen.

After torching Nortporth for 29 points in the team's previous outing, the former NCAA MVP erupted anew for 25 points in the win over Magnolia Hotshots Friday that assured San Miguel a Top 2 finish in the eliminations and a twice-to-beat edge in the quarterfinals.

Perez hit the game-clinching basket when he buried a three-pointer in the final 28 seconds that took the fight out of the Hotshots in their first meeting since San Miguel beat Magnolia in six games for the Commissioner's Cup title.

It was the fourth straight game Perez finished with 25 points or more as he hiked his conference average to 20.7 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.3 assists. (RG)
