Pingris shares words of wisdom to new Magnolia teammate Abueva

MARC Pingris has a solid piece of advice to close pal Calvin Abueva now that they're together at Magnolia.

The 39-year-old big man reminded Abueva not to waste the opportunity of becoming a member of the SMC family following his arrival with the Hotshots after being acquired in a trade with Phoenix.

Although the two have yet to see each other during Magnolia's individual workouts, Abueva said he's been in constant communication with Pingris.

"Sabi niya ayusin mo na yan. It's a big opportunity na nandiyan ka. Huwag mo nang pakawalan," Abueva recalled Pingris' words to him during his guesting in the Saturday program The Chasedown.

While they may have personal battles on the hardcourt in the past, Abueva and Pingris developed a close friendship during their stint together with Gilas Pilipinas.

The two eventually became known as the voices behind the national team's famous battle cry, 'Laban, Pilipinas!'

Unfortunately, their frontcourt partnership at Magnolia has yet to be officially forged as Pingris remains unsigned by the Hotshots, since the native of Pozorrubio, Pangasinan is still undecided whether to return for another tour of duty or finally retired from playing.

Abueva said Pingris hasn't told him yet about his plans for the coming season.

"Wala pa siyang sinasabi, e. Pero sana nga magkasama kami rito (Magnolia) kahit one season lang bago siya mag-retire. Yun ang wish ko," said the pride of Angeles City.

"Kasi all of us, heads-up kami sa kanya dahil siyempre beterano. Yung experience niya nung naglalaro pa siya, iba yun kaysa sa experience namin ngayon," added Abueva. "At mas maganda kung ma share niya yung experience na yun para naman kami umangat pa kung ano ang dapat naming gawin."(RG)
