Renz Palma vows to return with new tricks in next year's Slam Dunk contest

CALASIAO -- Blackwater's Renz Palma promised to put om display new sets of stunts if given another chance compete PBA All-Star in the Slam Dunk contest.

Palma came close to winning side-event of the league's mid-year spectacle but fell short against Phoenix's Rey Guevarra in a repeat of last year's Slam Dunk finals.

"Tuloy lang," Palma said after Friday's competition at the Calasiao Sports Complex here. "Next year, kapag nagkaroon ako ng chance, yun na yun."

The former University of the East mainstay gave Guevarra a run for his money with dazzling dunks that included a one-handed slam off six people to earn a perfect score of 50.

Ginawa ko," he said.

He went for broke during the dunk-off with help from Beau Belga, who tried set up Palma for a long alley-oop pass from the stands.

But Palma repeatedly missed the catch and failed to convert all of his attempt during the one-minute allotted time, paving the way for Guevarra to claim a record-tying fifth crown.

(JT)
