Rest and recover as TNT plays waiting game

TNT is keeping the fire burning in anticipation of an extra days of rest before the PBA Governors' Cup finals get underway.

Still awaiting which between Barangay Ginebra and San Miguel will be their opponent in the best-of-seven title series, the Tropang Giga will use the break to rest their weary bodies and at the same time, remain in top fighting form to what is expected to be a grueling battle for the first championship at stake in Season 49.

The Tropang Giga clinched the first finals berth on Friday night by finishing off Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, 113-95, to wrap up their best-of-seven semis at 4-1.

"We have to go back and make sure that we're able to take advantage. There's always two sides to this. You can dull or lose your edge, or you can use it as a good recovery and keep sharp," stressed TNT coach Chot Reyes.

"So it's incumbent upon us now, the coaching staff and the players to use this to prepare as to whoever will be playing. Regardless, parehong malakas yun."

Barangay Ginebra currently leads the other semis series against San Miguel, 3-2, with Game 6 set on Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

A win by the Kings will have them arranging a rematch of the 2023 Governors Cup finals against the Tropang Giga, while a victory by San Miguel sends the series to a sudden-death Game 7 on Wednesday also at the Big Dome.

Whatever, Reyes said the waiting game will give his team the time to rest and recover especially the ones nursing injuries like veterans Jayson Castro and Kelly Williams.

"I like this position especially to be able to rest those with injuries like Jayson," said Reyes of his long-time main backcourt player, who didn't suit up for the series-clinching win against Rain or Shine due to his groin injury.(RG)
