Road Warriors seek all-important W versus Fuel Masters

THE NLEX Road Warriors seek to steer back on track and bolster their quarterfinal drive in the PBA Season 49 Governors' Cup Friday when they take on Phoenix at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

The Road Warriors are in the midst of a four-game slide that put them in the fringes of the race for the "Magic 4" in Group B.

With a 3-5 win-loss record, Coach Jong Uichico and his charges sit at fourth, ahead of No. 5 Blackwater (3-5) on tiebreak (+6).

And they could well use the 5 p.m. duel with the already-ousted Fuel Masters (1-8) as a means to gain more headway versus the idle Bossing in their dispute to join San Miguel Beer (6-2), Rain or Shine (6-2) and Barangay Ginebra (6-3) in the Last-8 march from their pool.

After Phoenix, which is raring to end its campaign on a bright note, the Road Warriors will battle the Gin Kings on Sunday. Meanwhile, the Bossing will try to extract crucial victories versus SMB on Saturday and the Elasto Painters on the last day of pool play on Monday.

NLEX has brought in a new import in DeQuan Jones vice Myke Henry to try and get out of the doldrums and make the playoffs.

In his PBA debut last Tuesday, Jones erupted for 49 points and 11 rebounds in tandem with Robert Bolick (28) but the Road Warriors failed to finish the job and surrendered a 114-123 overtime loss to ROS.

The goal now is for Jones and Co. to go all the way to that all-important W against a Fuel Masters side that can spoil things in their last hurrah of the conference. (OL)
