Romeo out for remainder of Philippine Cup with shoulder injury

SAN Miguel's bid for a record sixth PBA Philippine Cup championship suffered another blow after superstar guard Terrence Romeo was ruled out for the remainder of the tournament.

SMB coach Leo Austria made the announcement Saturday morning after doctors who attended on Romeo informed him about the severity of the injury which forced Romeo to leave the bubble.

According to Austria it will take some amount of time for the injury to heal.

"I talked to him (Romeo) last night and the doctor told him na six to eight weeks yung healing time," Austria said.

The three-time scoring champion was rushed to the nearby Medical City Clark and was initially diagnosed with a dislocated right shoulder after colliding with Tropang Giga guard Ryan Reyes on Friday at the Smart 5G powered Angeles University Foundation Arena. TNT won over SMB, 107-88, to assume the solo lead with its third straight victory.

According to San Miguel physical therapist Edward Bacason, renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. George Canlas checked on Romeo on Saturday.

The latest development came as a shocker to Austria and the Beermen, who are campaigning in the PBA bubble already without five-time MVP June Mar Fajardo.

SMB has lost its first two games in the PBA restart and totes a 1-2 mark. (PL)
