Scottie Thompson reveals other aspect of his game

Scottie Thompson registered his fourth career triple-double in Barangay Ginebra San Miguel's 116-98 mastery of GlobalPort at the Cuneta Astrodome Friday but it was the other aspect of his game that impressed coach Tim Cone.

"I think the key to the game was how well Scottie Thompson played Stanley Pringle on defense. I felt he was just outstanding. I don't remember Stanley getting a two-point shot," Cone said of Thompson, who limited Pringle to just 14 points after scoring 50 in GlobalPort's win over Columbian last June 22.

Pringle shot 5-of-11 from the field, all but one of his attempts coming from the three-point line.

"It just goes to show Scottie is more than just a triple-double guy, maybe he is a quadruple-double guy because he certainly did double figures in defense. He was awesome," Cone added.

Thompson finished with 11 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists to help Ginebra win its fifth straight and end the elimination round of the PBA Commissioner's Cup at 6-5.

The late run enabled Ginebra to secure a place in the best-of-three quarters, its opponent to be determined after Saturday's matches.

"Talagang wala akong ibang focus but to limit him kasi yun nga, ganda ng preparations namin kasi nga galing sya 50 points," Thompson said. "Ganda ng game plan ng coaching staff, talagang yun ang nagdala sa amin sa panalo."(JT)
