SMB raring to get back on track

MARCIO Lassiter admitted the heartbreak of San Miguel losing to Meralco in the PBA Governors' Cup finals last season still stings up to this date.

"It still hurt. I'm still thinking about it. What could have been? The what if? " said the 37-year-old gunner

As the top seeded team entering the playoffs, including a 4-0 sweep of Rain or Shine in the semifinals, San Miguel was naturally the heavy favorite to win the crown and complete a two-conference sweep of Season 48.

Unfortunately, the Beermen found a tough customer and a hungry opponent in the Bolts, who went on and upset the mighty franchise in six games to win their first ever PBA championship in franchise history.

Lassiter, who had a good season following his stint with Gilas Pilipinas, felt San Miguel let one slipped away after previously bagging the Commissioner's Cup crown.

"We tried our best, but it wasn't good enough," he said.

Now bringing with them the lessons from that stunning loss, the Beermen try to start all over again when Season 49 opens next week with the returning Governors' Cup.

"You hate to lose, but you (also) become hungrier," Lassiter said of what is expected of the Beermen in the opening conference.

"We just have to come in and really focus on what we need to do, and make sure to improve on those things that we have to clear up. I'm sure we'll figure something out."

San Miguel will be getting help from import Jordan Adams in the season-opening meet.
