Thompson adds Finals MVP to Best Player of the Conference award

SCOTTIE Thompson added another feather to his cap in what had been an amazing PBA Governors Cup campaign.

The 28-year-old Thompson was named the Honda-PBA Press Corps Finals MVP as he helped Barangay Ginebra retain its title Friday night with a 103-92 victory against Meralco in Game 6 of the finals played before a roaring crowd of 20,244 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Thompson was the unanimous choice for the award handed out by the group of mediamen covering the PBA beat, his second Finals MVP counting the one he also won during the 2018 Commissioner's Cup.

The Ginebra guard averaged 17.8 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 5.5 assists in the six-game series.

The award comes in the heels of Thompson bagging his first ever Best Player of the Conference award.

But Thompson said the individual awards wouldn't be possible without the help of his Ginebra teammates.

"Total team effort for us," he said in deferring to the rest of the Kings for winning the season-ending crown for the fourth time in the last five seasons.

He finished with 15 points, three rebounds, and three assists in the closeout win, including eight in the third period when Ginebra began taking control of the game. (RG)
