TNT KaTropa gambles on Marqus Blakely in hope to resuscitate struggling campaign

Marqus Blakely is making a comeback in the PBA to play for the TNT KaTropa.

The KaTropa acquired the services of Blakely in a bid to resuscitate its struggling campaign in the season-ending PBA Governors' Cup.

The 6-foot-4 Blakely, who had four tour of duty with Purefoods/Star, replaces Stacy Davis. He is the third TNT KaTropa import this conference.

The 26-year old former Vermont standout led Purefoods (now-Magnolia) to two championships in the past and won the Best Import award in the 2013 Governors' Cup.

TNT Interim coach Eric Gonzales, though, cautioned his troops not to expect so much on Blakely.

"Ang una kong sinabi sa team, he's not our savior. He will just help us, so we must help him, too, to be effective," he said.

Gonzales said the KaTropa have a lot of work ahead of them and have to start playing consistent basketball if they intend to improve on their 2-4 start.

"He's already used to the PBA and that's one thing which is very encouraging. But the bulk of the effectiveness of Marqus Blakely depends on the locals," he said.

"It's all about playing together as a team and helping each other out. It's all about us having the initiative individually to really reach out kasi we started very flat. It's no longer on who coaches or the import, but rather, It's really us."(DL)
