Two-day break a much needed respite for PBA semifinalists

BARANGAY Ginebra coach Tim Cone is among those who welcomes the two-day game break teams will have this week before the PBA Governors Cup semifinals resume on Wednesday.

The champion mentor said the grind of the best-of-seven series is an exhausting one physically and mentally for everyone, not only for the Kings but for the rest of the teams playing in the Final Four.

It's definitely a relief that all four teams get some breathing space after Game 3 held at the Dasmarinas City Arena in Cavite on Sunday.

"This is something that we need as well. We're going to cherish this and try recover our bodies," said Cone following the Kings' 99-94 grind out win against the San Miguel Beermen for a 2-1 lead in their own best-of-seven semis.

"I know Justine (Brownlee) would gonna love it, and hopefully, we'll be recharged to go," Cone added, referring to Barangay Ginebra's beloved import.

The other pairing between Rain or Shine and TNT is also now down to a best-of-five after the Elasto Painters hacked out a 110-109 thriller.

Cone said the rest days assured all four teams will come out fresh and recharge as they play the remaining half of the semis.

"I think it's important to have some extended breaks during the semifinals because it keeps the quality of the game high when you come in and play fresh," acknowledged the winningest coach in PBA history.

"And if both teams are worn out and beat up and down, the quality can flew away," Cone added. "I'd like the fact that both (semis) are getting a couple of days off."

Both Game 4 of the two semis pairings will return at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.(RG)
