OSAKA - Ricky Vargas of the TNT Tropang Giga team, already the longest serving PBA board chairman, gained a new mandate even as the board elected two new officers to serve in a season preparatory to the league's milestone 50th.
Vargas was unanimously elected to keep the league chairmanship during the election of officers kicking off the PBA board planning session at Swissotel Nankai Hotel here Sunday.
The TNT Tropang Giga top honcho is to serve his seventh term in PBA Season 49 set to open on Aug. 18 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Barangay Ginebra's Alfrancis Chua was elected as vice chairman, succeeding Terrafirma's Bobby Rosales while Atty. Ogie Narvasa is the new secretary and legal counsel.
Phoenix' Raymond Zorrilla was retained as treasurer while commissioner Willie Marcial was reconfirmed to continue his second three-year term.

After the reelection that underscored the board's full trust and confidence on him, Vargas presided over the board's annual summit where they crafted the league's plans and programs for the coming PBA gigs.
Chua said the league is doing well with Vargas as leader.
"With chairman Ricky, okay ang liga. Siya ang nagdadala sa amin, we follow his decisions and back him up," said Chua.
As for his mandate as vice chairman, Chua said he's surprised. He stressed he'll be there for the league with or without a position. (SB)
