Welcome back, Larry

LARRY Fonacier makes his PBA comeback under a different situation and under a different condition.

The veteran forward suits up for CAVITEX in the coming PBA 3x3 inaugurals two years since last playing competitive basketball as part of the NLEX Road Warriors.

Fonacier teams up with Kyles Lao, AC Soberano, David Murrell, and Maurice Shaw for the Road Warriors, who will be handled by Emman Monfort and Borgie Hermida.

As one of the most senior players in the tournament at 39, Fonacier admitted he considers himself like a big brother to the rest of the field.

"Puwede ko na ngang maging anak ang mga ito," the seven-time PBA champion said in jest during his guest appearance in the program The Game, well aware majority of the 3x3 cast are young and eager players willing to prove they belong in the big league.

But age is just a number, and Fonacier is more than willing to show he's still up to the task despite being away from the game the past two years.

He opted not to play in the Philippine Cup at the Clark bubble last season due to personal matters, before being included as part of the NLEX franchise's entry in the three-a-side tournament of Asia's pioneering pro league.

"I don't know. It's been two years since I've played. Mahirap yung training namin, mahirap makisabay sa mga bata," acknowledged the evergreen wingman from Ateneo.

"But I'm forced to expand my game and to reinvent myself again. So it's interesting. I'm looking forward to this."

Fonacier formally marks his return on the court when the 3x3 Lakas ng Tatlo meet formally kicks off on Nov. 20 at the Ynares Sports Arena.
