MIKEY Williams owned the PBA Governors Cup finals and he made everybody knows about it behind a memorable performance in TNT's 97-93 win over Barangay Ginebra to win the championship Friday night.
The Fil-Am sophomore exploded for 38 big points, including 26 in the first half, as he teamed up with import Rondae Hollis-Jefferson to carry the Tropang Giga to their first ever championship in the season ending conference.
Williams shot 50 percent from three-point range behind a 9-of-18 shooting, saving his best for last when he hit a bankshot three-pointer from way out off the outstretched hand of Christian Standhardinger to give TNT back the lead for good, 95-93, with 1:15 left to play in Game 6 before a crowd of 13,588.
His heroics, gutsy plays, and consistency for the entire best-of-seven series made Williams the hands down choice as the Honda-PBA Press Corps Finals MVP.
Williams, 31, referred to the championship night as a 'special day.'

"I had it going," said the Fil-AM guard, who actually shot a record 10 three pointers in Game 3 of the 2021 Philippine Cup finals between TNT and Magnolia at the Bacolor bubble.
"I owe it to my team to stay aggressive because we're playing a tough team in Ginebra."
For the entire finals, Williams averaged 22 points on 45 percent shooting from beyond the arc, 3.3 rebounds, and 3.2 assists.
The TNT guard is also the only player in finals history with two games of at least eight three pointers made.
It was the second finals MVP for the Cal State Fullerton alum following the similar feat during the Philippine Cup finals in Bacolor right in his very first conference in the league.
