Bolick sees promising future for NorthPort despite early exit

FOR Robert Bolick, NorthPort is just getting started.

The third-year guard vows the Batang Pier will be back wiser and stronger in the next PBA conference after an early exit in the Philippine Cup playoffs.

The team got swept in the best-of-three quarterfinals series by the San Miguel Beermen in Bolick's first conference back since going down with an ACL injury in his rookie season.

But despite failing to advance in the semifinals, the 26-year-old former San Beda stalwart sees a bright future for the franchise that tweaked its roster this season by adding key players Greg Slaughter, Sidney Onwubere, Jerrick Balanza, and promising rookies Jamie Malonzo, and Troy Rike.

The Batang Pier already saw a glimpse of their potential after finishing as the fifth seeded team heading into the playoffs, where unfortunately, they ran smacked to a veteran San Miguel squad, but not after giving the Beermen a competitive series.

Still, Bolick believes everything will only get better for NorthPort moving forward.

"It's just the beginning for us. We will be back," he said in a touching message on his social media account.

"Can't wait for the next chapter."

NorthPort getting eliminated in the playoffs also meant hurting Bolick's shot for the Best Player of the Conference award, where he's been crowding out fellow top contenders Calvin Abueva of Magnolia and Mikey Williams, the explosive TnT rookie guard.

At the end of the quarterfinals, Bolick, picked no. 3 overall in the 2018 draft, remains in third place with a 33.7 total statistical points, but is expected to fall in the rankings once the semifinals is through.

The third-year guard doesn't mind it.

"I don't mind about the nomination. I don't care about the stats because it's always the championship I look forward for," said Bolick.(RG)
