Cavitex stays on top as teams scramble for spots in grand finals

BUOYED by back-to-back leg wins, the Cavitex Braves stayed on top in the PBA 3x3 Season 3 First Conference team standings with 410 tour points through five legs.

Sustaining their breakthrough victory last week, the Braves annexed the Leg 5 plum at the expense of Pioneer Elastoseal, 22-10, to pick up the maximum 100 points in the two-day competition and move in striking position for top seeding in the grand finals.

With one leg to contest before the conference championship, Cavitex holds an 82-point lead against Barangay Ginebra (328).

The Gin Kings, the only other two-leg winner of the conference, kept their hold of No. 2 following their podium finish in Leg 5.

Leg 3 ruler TNT Triple Giga maintained their grip on third overall with 290 points while the Meralco Bolts climbed up to No. 4 with 285 points after lingering at fifth.

On the strength of their runner-up finish in the penultimate leg, the Katibays (260 points) soared two places to fifth ahead of the San Miguel Beermen (258), whose disappointing 10thplace in Leg 5 pulled them down two places.

Wilcon Depot (211 points) occupied seventh, their woeful 11th placing the other day dragging them down from sixth while Terrafirma (156) remained in ninth spot. Former cellar-dweller NorthPort Batang Pier (153) switched places with Purefoods TJ Titans (129) at No. 10 after registering a strong fourth place finish in the fifth leg. (OL)
