Chris Banchero has never been happier in his career. Thanks to Alaska coach Alex Compton the Fil-Italian guard is enjoying his best season in Asia's first play for pay league.
The four-year guard is averaging 16.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 10.5 assists and 1.5 steals in the PBA Governors' Cup, numbers that helped the Aces won four of five games and bolster its bid for a twice to beat advantage in the quarterfinals.
"This is the best I've felt since joining Alaska," said Banchero after Alaska's 127-119 victory over San Miguel Beer at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City Saturday night.
"I'm very comfortable now. I've been with Alaska for quite some time now so it's my job to produce. They put a lot into me and I'm glad that I'm playing well," added Banchero, who was moved from the point to shooting guard position
Compton said he effected the switch on the suggestion of assistant Eric Altamirano, who thought Banchero would be more effective as a shooting guard rather than a playmaker.

So far, the move has worked well.
"It's just right on the money," said Compton. "We've been playing him at the two spot but he's playing like a 1.5. He can score, he can run the team, he can get the other guys' shots, and he's been great.
"And he's been having a special year. He was awesome when we won six straight (games) in the All-Filipino, I think he was leading the league in assists last conference (Commissioner's Cup), and I think he's near the top of the league in assists this conference," Compton said.
"He's been really consistent. I'm proud of him and happy for him," added Compton.
For his part, Banchero said the new role has allowed him to maximize his game and contribute more.

"Transition is really my strength, so I can get out and put pressure on the defense and then, find the open shooters so it's really a good move," he said. (JT)
